New, Potentially Final, HCR Bill Soon

By Sunlight Foundation & Participatory Politics Foundation

ADVERTISEMENTS

Friday afternoon, Rahn Emanuel formally invited a couple dozen high-ranking member of Congress to a meeting on reforming health care. According to the invite, the meeting will be broadcast live in its entirety and they’ll be discussing four things: “insurance reforms, cost containment, expanding coverage, and the impact health reform legislation will have on deficit reduction.”

But there also be some new legislation for the talks to revolve around. From the invite:

Since this meeting will be most productive if information is widely available before the meeting, we will post online the text of a proposed health insurance reform package. This legislation would put a stop to insurance company abuses, extend coverage to millions of Americans, get control of skyrocketing premiums and out-of-pocket costs, and reduce the deficit.

Assuming that the Republicans don’t decide to enter the fray on health care reform following this meeting, the bill that Obama will be proposing in advance of the meeting may well be the Dems’ final offer on the matter.
