A New York woman has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, claiming they should have better lit the Summerville Pier that the boat her husband was in crashed into in June 2008, killing him in the process. She has also filed a suit against four bars near the pier that served the driver of the boat, Howard F. Eddy III. Eddy pleaded guilty to second degree manslaughter and boating while intoxicated. The plaintiff is seeking $5 million in damages from the U.S. Army, and unspecified damages from the bars.
