UPDATE: Pregnant Woman Hit In Train Crash Gives Birth

By Brett Emison

ADVERTISEMENTS

UPDATE: NBC News affiliate KSHB has reported that the pregnant woman critically injured in a Levasy, Missouri train crash has given birth.

You can read my initial report of this story here.

Levasy, MO Train Crash

LEVASY, Mo. – A then-pregnant woman and her newborn were recovering Sunday night after the woman was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in a railroad crossing accident.

Authorities say the woman was already near the end of her pregnancy, and doctors were able to successfully deliver the baby Saturday night.

The Jackson County Sheriff's office says a second person was also injured in the accident, though the extent of the second person's injuries was not immediately known.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to this new mother and her infant as well as the second person injured in this crash. Let's pray they both receive a speedy recovery.

Railroad companies should be held accountable for dangerous railroad crossings that injure and kill. Is there a different set of rules for railroad companies than for everyone else? Railroad companies need to stop putting profits in front safety.

You can learn more about how to protect yourself at railroad crossings by visiting our railroad safety blog or web site.
