Things I've Been Meaning To Post About

ADVERTISEMENTS

I'm ashamed to admit it, but Grey's Anatomy has become a don't-want-to-miss show for me this season.  Tonight's final new pre-strike episode no exception.  And a pretty awesome Lifehouse song in there too, called "Broken."

Twice I've tried to write a post about "The Bucket List" but I can't bring myself to actually pull the trigger, because I read an interview with the screenwriter and he sounds like a decent enough guy, and I'd be pretty upset if I read a post about something I wrote that was as negative as I felt like being after seeing The Bucket List.  I expected it might have been more the studio or director's fault than the writer's, and I actually tracked down a script draft a friend sent me, and even just skimming it it's pretty clear the draft was markedly better than the end product.  But I thought it was just a terrible movie, from the monstrously awful green-screen "special effects" that didn't even pretend the actors were anywhere except a Hollywood sound stage to the magical terminal-cancer-with-no-symptoms.  I have never left a theater feeling more cheated by a movie, and I didn't even pay anything to see it.  There are certainly movies I've found more unwatchable, dull, not to my taste, etc, but never something I respected less.  Okay, there's my post, three days after seeing the movie and the feelings still linger, so, look, what's the point of blogging if I'm going to deny my honest opinions about stuff.

There's an unbelievably fascinating pair of posts by Jon Robin Baitz on the Huffington Post, about being asked to take a step back from "Brothers and Sisters," the show he created for ABC.  The posts talk about LA vs. NY and the difficulty of making a life out here, about creative visions forced to be diluted, and, gosh, just read them.

One of the more coherent recent articles about the strike, from a UK newspaper.

I watched tonight's Fox News South Carolina Republican debate.  I really wasn't into this presidential race at all until about 10 days ago.  This always happens to me.  I don't pay any attention and then suddenly I watch a debate, and then I decide to watch all of them and start to really get engaged in this.  They just had a debate three days ago, but who cares, I'll watch them all.  I actually searched my DVR for title of program: "Presidential Debate" (and found two more coming up!).  Isn't that sad?  Anyway, Fred Thompson had a terrific, commanding, unbelievable performance tonight.  I mean, I watch this stuff for the theater of it, not the substance, so I'm not saying I want to vote for Fred Thompson or anything like that.  But what a debate he had!  I think everyone who runs for President should have to be a real actor.
