: Legal Pad | LADelgadillio sues insurer Health Net
By Jason Siegel
Los Angeles City Attorney Rock Delgadillo is suing insurer Health Net. Delgadillo alleges the company sells policies using a long, misleading application, and then looks for errors or omission in the application as an excuse to cancel coverage when patients need expensive treatment.
At least 1,600 Health Net policyholders had their coverage canceled over four years, KPCC Public Radio reported. Delgadillo also started a criminal investigation of the company for paying bonuses to employees based on the number of policies they cancel.
Delgadillo spoke to KPCC on Friday. (LISTEN)
A Lakewood hairdresser, who's health coverage was canceled by Health Net while she was undergoing breast cancer treatment, was awarded $9 million -- the day after Delgadillo filed suit according to The Washington Post.
