Caretaker Charged with Raping an Elderly Woman

By Levin & Perconti

ADVERTISEMENTS

A private caretaker who was charged with raping an elderly woman in an assisted living pleaded no contest to all charges. The 50-year-old man will be sentenced to between four and nine years in prison for the elderly abuse. He will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. The employee was a county public health assistant at the time of his arrest, although the elderly abuse occurred at his second job in a private home. Authorities previously said that the employee was an ?independent licensed caregiver.? However, he was not in a position that required any kind of licensing by the state either with the county or the private home. The victim, who was in her late 80s, was set to testify about the sexual abuse. Yet she did not have the opportunity to testify because the man admitted to everything he was charged with, both rape and elder abuse. Employees should be licensed before they are able to work in nursing homes, in order to eliminate this type of elder abuse. To read more about the elder abuse, please click the link.
