: Dispatches from the Culture WarsAppeals Court Allows Ashcroft Suit to Continue
By Ed Brayton
An appeals court panel of the 9th circuit has ruled in favor of a plaintiff who filed suit against John Ashcroft for illegally using the material witness laws to detain terrorism suspects indefinitely. Al-Kidd is an American citizen, born Lavoni Kidd in Wichita, Kansas. He converted to Islam in college.
