Settlement Reached in Death of Visiting Chinese Scholars

Three men who survived a rollover accident and the families of seven others killed in the same accident have settled with the University of Utah, ending a two-week trial. The plaintiffs, who were all visiting from China, will split almost $500,000 which is just below the amount that would require approval by the legislature. The families alleged the university's Institute of International Tourism was negligent when it rented the van through an unlicensed company that employed a driver not familiar with operating large vans.
