Eulogy for a blog

ADVERTISEMENTS
It is one thing when a blogger makes the decision to close up shop because the blog no longer serves a purpose to the writer. It is quite another when circumstances beyond one's control compel one to suddenly stop blogging.

A friend of mine, who is also a blogger, recently deleted her entire blog. This blogger (let's just call her "ND") is a single mother and a public interest lawyer, and a few weeks ago she was forced to take her blog down suddenly. She wasn't allowed to say goodbye to her readers or offer any explanation as to why she deleted her blog, and I know that she feels really awful about this. Please don't mention the name of her blog in any of the comments to this post, but if you wish to say goodbye to her, she is most likely reading and would love to hear from you.

ND is a bad ass. I remember when she wrote about being ridiculously pregnant and digging her car out of a massive snow dump and I thought, damn this is a woman who can do anything. She had been there, done that, and wrote the book on it--then she burned the book and did it again if it was fun. Then, she chose a career that allowed her to use her heart and her skill and her strength to do some good for people, many of whom will never appreciate it. All while raising an equally bad ass Duckling who was climbing on baby gates before she was solidly walking.

She is gone from the sphere. One of my favorite quirky funny inspiring bloggers and friends had been silenced. I am sad for her... and for all of us.

ND gave me permission to re-post some of her Roundups here for posterity. The links are dead, and I am not going to reconstruct them, but her themes live on. By my count, she did sixteen round ups. Hit the MILP button above if you want a sad imitation of an ND fix.
