Skadden?s Hottest Associates Contest Strikes It Cold

When a blogger takes on Big Law he has to be sure of his or her actions, right?  Well, sometimes, sometimes not.  But when the blogger is a member of the firm, like Skadden Insider, then yes, they do.  At least that’s what happened when Skadden counsel Henry Baer issued a memo castigating Skadden Insider for running a ‘hot associate’ contest.  The Insider quotes the memo:

The Firm recognizes that blogs are prevalent in today’s culture and that blogs about Skadden are to be expected. Nonetheless, we believe that the “contests” on one of these blogs is inappropriate and does not reflect our values and standards of behavior. Numerous attorneys at the Firm have expressed their concern and, in some cases, embarrassment at such contests. We urge the authors of the blog to consider both the privacy and feelings of the affected attorneys and to discontinue the contests.

The slow-posting Insider adhered to Baer’s dictum and discontinued the contest, although the ‘Hottest Female’ was still up - somewhat unexciting it was too.

As one of the commentators on the Insider said:  Why not discuss the work slow down or the Skadden 60th? Is there so little going on at Skadden that you can come up with nothing but the hottest contests?

It would appear so.
