Women used to talk about how little time they had taken off to have children

Research today shows that 55 per cent of lawyers might apply to be judges if they could work part-time. This week Sylvia de Bertodano started sitting as a circuit judge. Unusually, she does 80 per cent of a full-time post ? spreading the hours so that she works a full week but takes more holiday. School holidays are then possible, she says, which is attractive to women who otherwise might not return to work while their children are small.
