Personal information management strategy

By Jason

ADVERTISEMENTS

A few weeks ago I listed my goals for this year. To be perfectly honest I have not made as much progress on them as I would like, but 2008 is still early and I do need to pace myself.

My goal to make a great AALL website for the annual meeting is under way. I’m not sure I made the historic strides I was aiming for, but I am proud of it. I think I accomplished making the website simple and useful, although we’ll see how it progresses as the meeting gets closer. We’re currently making some formatting changes, and there should be an announcement about it in the next few weeks.

My #1 goal was to create a comprehensive personal information strategy and to blog the process. I was thinking of what category or tag to use for this. I decided to use PIMS as Personal Information Management Strategy (I didn’t like the acronym for Personal Information Strategy).

Today, I begin my research into this project. I have bought a copy of Personal Information Management by William Jones and Jaime Teevan. I am going to look at some additional books on information and knowledge management. I think I will also need to examine some books on productivity like David Allen’s Getting Things Done.

I will also do a literature search. This literature search will include traditional database sources, as well as a web search and blog search.

I’m a librarian, I tend to over-research. But I think I need to examine many different perspectives for how to organize myself. My current ad hoc method just isn’t working anymore.

If you have suggestions for books, blogs, websites, articles, or anything else I should examine to prepare please let me know.
