Ledbetter law applied to tenure case

By Kia Franklin

ADVERTISEMENTS

The Ledbetter Fair Pay Act is being applied in a university tenure lawsuit. From Ms. Magazine we learn that "the suit alleges gender discrimination in denying tenure, in part because male professors at the university who also were not published had received tenure and promotions." Were it not for Ledbetter, the case might have been dismissed due to the old 180 day rule that throws out cases involving alleged discrimination after 180 days have passed since the initial discriminatory act. Go Ledbetter, go! Breathe new life into important discrimination claims! This is so important now, when people simply can't afford to just up and quit their job when they feel they've been treated unfairly.
