Goals for 2008: AALL, personal information strategy, and more

By Jason

ADVERTISEMENTS

A colleague here at the firm suggested a few days ago that I should set some goals for the coming year. Not because I am a directionless loser (I think), but just because it’s a good idea. And he’s right, it is a good idea. So I’ve decided to write down some goals I have for the coming year.

  1. Develop a comprehensive personal information strategy, blog the process: A few days ago I wrote about how dealing with information overload required just such a thing. This may have been a little hypocritical because my own information strategy isn’t quite up to par. Blogging about the process might help others, or help develop a model which could be useful as well. Might also make a good article on LLRX.
  2. Enhance/Develop/Improve my personal website and blog: My personal website and blog have been static for a little too long. I tend not to be as productive on weekends, at least not as far as technology is concerned. I think I might have to spend some weekends after the football season improving the current state of my url’s.
  3. Enhance/Develop/Improve the Oregon chapter of SLA website: This is another site I created that I just haven’t had as much time to dedicate to improving. But now I have someone helping me out, and between the two of us we can probably make some nice improvements to the site.
  4. Try to make the most useful website/blog in AALL Annual Meeting history: Yes, I am the webmaster for the 2008 annual meeting website and blog (currently under construction). My goal is to make something simple, very simple, but also very useful. I’ve found that in years past the website and blog haven’t been as useful as they could be. This has often been highlighted by the fact that they are often separate websites. I would like to eventually have something that serves as a go-to place before, during, and after the 2008 annual meeting in Portland. I’m not 100% sure how I will make that happen, but I’m working on it, and I’m open to suggestions.
  5. Take better care of my teeth: This is just a good idea generally.
  6. Blog more: Originally I had hoped to blog daily. That just doesn’t work for me. But I still should blog more than I do. Well, maybe. I plan on developing a blogging plan as part of the information strategy.

I think if I can accomplish these modest tasks, it will be a successful year.
