ADVERTISEMENTS

I live this movie...promise.

Back story is that we ran some ads in a Sunday paper on 4/12 and 4/19 for a position. Part of running an ad means the company gets "tear sheets" (actual ad from newspaper sent to party placing ad) following the run. It's now Wednesday, tear sheets are pulled on Mondays, and our account reps from paper are on vacay. Even with them being in the office this week it means that we wouldn't see them AT MINIMUM until the end of the week. (Huge company and mail is slow for us.) Pointy-haired boss wanted them on his desk Monday morning from the paper. Erm. So, I get an email yesterday asking me to get in contact with the paper and find out the status. No response since all the account reps are on vacay for the week and the "backup" reps are on vacay as well.

Which brings us to this:

Pointy-haired boss sends an email requesting a "keep me posted on [said project]". Keeping him posted means answering his questions when he comes to my office 3 minutes after sending.

Also means being asked:

?Hey, do you get the [said newspaper] at home?? says he.

?Nope,? says I.

?Can you keep your eyes out for a copy of the last two Sunday papers when you are home?? says he.

?Umm, I don?t get the [said newspaper],? says I.

?Well keep your eyes out for it,? says he.

(me without my time traveling machine...damn! Wonders to self if friends in R&D can provide the hookup or script to run.)

?No one I know subscribes,? says I.

?Well, still keep an eye out,? says he.

?Can I charge [said employer] for overtime by doing so and working from home? Shouldn't be more than 4 hours of OT,? says I.

Pointy-haired boss walks out of my office.

I guess that was a ?no?.
