Suffolk County Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Accident Kills Woman

ADVERTISEMENTS

Suffolk County police officials are looking for a hit-and-run driver who they say struck and injured a female pedestrian as she was attempting to cross Sunrise Highway in East Islip, according to this ABC news report. The New York pedestrian accident victim was identified as 25-year-old Heather DiFede. Authorities said the driver did not stop and fled the scene. They are also looking for a vehicle that may have sustained front-end damage.

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime in New York. If you have been involved in an auto accident, the law requires you to stop and exchange information with the other parties involved. If someone has been seriously injured in the accident, you are required to stop and help, if you are able to do so safely. The law requires every motorist involved in an auto accident in NY to stop at the scene of the accident ? whether or not the accident was their fault. If the accident was not their fault and they left the scene of the accident, they could still face criminal hit-and-run charges.

Each day in the United State and in New York, innocent pedestrians are injured because of negligent motor vehicle drivers. Pedestrian accidents can result in devastating injuries such as brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, lifelong disabilities or even death. Injured victims and their families are faced with mounting medical bills and loss of wages.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a New York pedestrian accident, please call a top New York auto accident attorney at Wingate, Russotti & Shapiro LLP. for a free consultation. Please do not sign anything, agree to a settlement or discuss your case with anyone before you have contacted a knowledgeable and experienced Suffolk County personal injury attorney.
