Cheezburger

By "Daisy Duke"

ADVERTISEMENTS
Today on Twitter the Yat Pundit and myself discussed the nation's best burger. He and I heartily agreed on the burger that falls in second place - Port of Call in New Orleans...but we also heartily disagreed on the burger that falls in first place. My vote? Easy, a double-double animal style from In-N-Out (tragically it is only found on the West Coast), but the Yat's vote was for a delectable bite from Bud's Broiler (also in New Orleans). Neither one of us dislikes the other's favorite, but alas, we could not agree. I'll admit that I've only been to Bud's once and I don't really remember my order....however I'm willing to give it another try the next time I'm in town!

I'm a total burger lover and I'm willing to try them any where, any style. In fact one of the first songs I knew all of the words to was Jimmy Buffet's Cheeseburger in Paradise...my brother and I used to belt out the chorus while standing on the coffee table. Physical cheeseburger favorites?Outside of my In-N-Out order, or a traditional Port of Call burger with a loaded baked potato, I love my burger medium with cheddar cheese, a runny fried egg & a few slices of ripe avocado. Yum. Trailing close behind is a burger served with thinly sliced (yet still crunchy) dill pickles, finely chopped white onion, cheddar cheese and a light light bit of mayo and mustard. BISMOW prefers his with a bit of crumbled bacon & melted blue cheese. Of course the perfect burger must be accompanied by delicious fries...the only exception being the messy, goopy delicious baked potato you get at Port of Call complete with commercial bacon-bits.

Below is my list of favorite burger joints around the nation (I'm pretty sure I've tried them all.....) ...while you peruse it be sure to let me know your favorite burger topping(s) and where you'll travel to, rain or shine, to enjoy your favorite American classic. Or better yet, where should I travel to enjoy my favorite culinary treat?

1. In-N-Out

2. Port O' Call (New Orleans)

3. Houston's

4. Blimpy Burger (Ann Arbor)

5. Redamak's (New Buffalo, Michigan)

6. The Counter

7. Dunlay's on Clark (Chicago)

8. Rockit (Chicago)

9. Billy Goat Tavern & Grill (Chicago)

10. Old Ebbitt Grill (Washington DC)
