Romney Out, For Now

By wt

ADVERTISEMENTS
After being crushed on Super Tuesday, Romney said not to worry, because his campaign would go on.

He meant for another day and a half.

And now it looks like he's eying 2012 for his next run.

Making the dramatic announcement at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference at a Washington hotel, Romney clearly hoped to preserve the goodwill of his party for another possible bid in 2012.

He intends to run again in four years, according to a senior member of his inner circle.

"He should be president. 2012," the confidant e-mailed after talking to Romney.

Let's discuss why that isn't going to work.

1. You will still be an insincere and shameless politician 4 years from now.

2. You'll be running against an incumbent.

3. A large part of your (minimal) success had to do with a negative reaction to John McCain.

By 2012, some other Republican will take up the charge and corner that vote. Once that happens, you're the Mormon former Governor of Massachusetts. Not exactly the best representative for the deep south.

Farewell Mitt Romney. Useless distraction of 2008.
