I Should Have Listened To The Internet People

By "Daisy Duke"

ADVERTISEMENTS
Today I heard back from the company I interviewed with last week. I was nervous when their number popped up on my caller id as I knew they had interviewed quite a few candidates after me. I was pretty sure I was one of the least qualified candidates who interviewed, at least on the number of years practicing.

It didn't seem to matter though because they offered me the job. I happily accepted it.

There are, of course, downfalls to this job:

- a reverse commute into the suburbs
- the first year of pay is rather meager

However, I think there are quite a few more perks than downfalls:

- a paycheck and those things that go along with jobs called BENEFITS
- the facility I'm working in in the suburbs is quite nice & amenity-filled
- there is a lot of room for upward growth & pay increases
- the job itself sounds pretty interesting & right up my alley
- my team seems great to work with and excited to have me on board
- did I mention the paycheck?
- and the health insurance?

I can't really tell you everything about the job (we needn't have my new co-workers finding this blog now do we?) but I'm working for a international corporation that is in solid financial territory in a stable market. The job requires a juris doctor but I won't be practicing law per se. I'm using my hard-earned specialty certificate  and I'll be doing a heck of a lot of writing- something I enjoy and like to think I'm even good at it every once in awhile. They are also one of those companies you read about in Fortune, those companies that offer telecommuting and flexible hours and lots of paid days off to keep up company morale. Truth be told I could jet off to Africa for a solid vacation this year with all the vacation time I'm given. (I'm not. I'm going to go on a honeymoon & spend some time with family over the holidays instead.)

I'm pretty excited about it and I start in a few weeks. Thank you to everyone who kept reminding me I would find something. Lets all hope that this job is better than the last. Oh and cross your fingers I pass the background check. That would be awkward now wouldn't it?

(In the interim I'm flying to my parents house later this week to make my future sister in law come spend the night so I can love on my nephew, help my Mom recover from a surgical procedure she is having tomorrow & to help my Dad pull off my Mother's surprise birthday party that he so lovingly scheduled for three days after her surgery. He is brilliant like that.)

(Oh and the surgery is just a minor knee repair but still lets keep our fingers crossed now shall we?)
