ADVERTISEMENTS
This morning the Death Penalty Subcommittee of the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee hears two proposals from Rep. Senfronia Thompson.  HB 1148 and HJR 58 together would give the Texas governor authority to issue more than one reprieve in a death penalty case.  Currently, the governor is limited to handing out a single 30-day reprieve.  An additional reprieve can only be made with a positive recommendation of the Board of Pardons and Paroles.  I'll be at the hearing, which begins at 8:00 am (CDT).  You can watch the hearing at this LINK.  Posts will resume later this morning.
