How's Work?

...you might ask? The quick roundup: It's really good. On the tough side, my supervisor is going on maternity leave SOON, so I'll kind of be running our side of operations and our joint cases over the summer. There's also some difficult conversations and analysis happening with a group of cases still active from a past raid that are finally coming to a head. We'll see how it turns out. I'm now more than 1/4 of the way through my fellowship, and in 5 months I'd actually have to apply for some government jobs if I wanted those to be options for Fall 2010. How did that happen?

On the plus side, my cases and jail visits are chugging along well, to say the least: I'm about to start briefing a motion filled with actual constitutional claims, and I just picked up one of the most fun kind of cases you can get: a citizenship claim! I also helped place a couple pro bono cases that made me feel like we really do help people instead of giving legal bad news and turning people away all the time (which is common in legal services). It's not always like this, but it's been a rewarding month.
