Taser Says Many Are Buying Its Slimmer Personal Model

By David Badertscher, PLL

"Nicole Gordon of Cincinnati got a Taser from her

boyfriend for Christmas, says the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Because a boyfriend worried about her going to and

from work in the dark, Gordon joined the more than

160,000 people nationwide carrying a weapon more

commonly associated with police. Scottsdale, Ariz.-

based Taser International has been selling personal

Tasers since 1994, but Gordon's pink model is new.

The C2 looks a bit like an electric shaver - the police

models look like guns - and comes in some

unexpected shades. There's an "electric blue" Taser

and a "red hot" Taser. Customers have snapped up

thousands of C2s in their first few months on the

market. Taser also sells a holster embedded with an

MP3 player. Prices range from $300 to $380 for C2.

The new model is smaller and slimmer than used by

police. Its range is 15 feet, 10 to 20 feet shorter than

the distance afforded officers. And its burst lasts 30

seconds, six times as long as the law enforcement

Tasers. The longer time means a person can shoot

the stun gun, then put it down - while it's still attached

to its target - and get away."
