: PaperStreet Web Design: SpeakOutWeb Security from Bank of America?
By Peter Boyd
I was trying to contact BaM today for a question from their “Send a Question” page. They had a funny browser check on the right hand side panel and said Firefox 3 was unsecure. So I wanted to see what was a secure browser?
Online Security Unsecure Browser Alert
Please update your Internet browser to ensure your information is secure.
Browser in use = Firefox 3
See our requirements for securing your internet browser through SSL.
It’s cool and that it tells you your browser. But how in the heck is FF 3 unsecure and giving an alert? If you click on the requirements link, it leads you to this page.
After some jazzy language, they list the browsers that are basically approved:
Windows
* Netscape Navigator 4.08 or later
* Netscape Communicator 4.7 or later
* Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or later
Macintosh
* Netscape Navigator 4.08 or later
* Netscape Communicator 4.7 or later
* Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5 or later
Heheheheh……I am thinking they need to update the requirements page. First, Firefox 3, the browser it detected, is probably one of the most secure browsers. Moreover, Netscape is no longer in business and IE 4 came out in the 90s. I quick fix up on that page, would be use Firefox 3, Internet Explorer 7/8, Opera, or Safari for the Mac.
