Readers of this blog will know Harvey and Eric Randall. They are the authors of the Discipline Book (reviewed here and here) that is about New York Public Sector Labor and Employment Law. I am pleased to announce that they just wrote their second book. Harvey is also the Editor of New York Public Personnel Blog, a blog we cite to often.

The title is The General Municipal Law Section 207-a/c Case Book. It is a guide to disability leave entitlement for New York Public Employees involved in law enforcement and fire fighting. It spans 1066 pages. Harvey describes this book as follows:

The Section 207-a/c Case Book is an electronic handbook for administrators, union officials and attorneys involved with General Municipal Law Sections 207-a and 207-c benefits available to law enforcement personnel and firefighters suffering job related injuries.

What is unique about this book is that it really is not a traditional book. It is on a thumb drive. The text is in MS Word and is unlocked so the reader can add his or her own electronic notes to the text. The reader is also free to download a copy to his or her computer as well as to his or her computer at home.

The book is really a manual. It cites hundreds of cases and covers hundreds of issues. To my knowledge, this is the only work of its kind. The book is professionally written and will undoubtedly be helpful to attorneys and others who practice this area of law. What is also unique about the book is that at times it is written like a treatise and at other times it includes the full text of court decisions like a law school casebook. This is probably because some of the cited material may be hard to find.

The book provides a detailed index and a detailed list of cases. Additionally, because the text is in MS Word, it is searchable. This is a very valuable feature for researchers.

Information about ordering the text, which should available in about a week for $295, as well as additional information is available here.
