from the wires: “James, don’t leave me, you can’t die. Don’t leave me,” cried Marta Martinez after her son, James Edward Martinez, was injected with the lethal drugs. Officers brought a wheelchair into the room and removed her and her daughter before Martinez was pronounced dead at 6:17 p.m., nine minutes after the injection. Martinez, 34, was condemned for the fatal shootings of Sandra Walton, 29, whom he dated briefly, and her 19-year-old friend Michael Humphreys outside her Fort Worth apartment in 2000. Martinez was the 11th condemned inmate to receive the lethal injection this year in the nation’s most active death penalty state and the first of two that were scheduled to die on consecutive nights this week...continue to full post
