: Chuck NewtonTexas Southern University Left Off The New Metro Line To Be Built In Houston
By Chuck Newton
Okay, maybe this post concerns local issues, but it does have a great impact on law schools in Houston, Texas. If you are striving to build a dynamic higher tier university and law school in an urban area, mass transit is important to that growth and for your prestige. The new mass transit configuration will now bypassed Texas Southern University, but has several stops on the University of Houston central campus. It also runs about two blocks from South Texas College of Law in the central business district already.
The TSU Law School and the UH Law Center are literally blocks from each other. The universities are just across the street from each other. TSU's law school, has been improving greatly, but it lags well behind UH in both popularity and bar passage success. Texas Southern, but not its law school, is trying to reorganize and overcome problems resulting from improprieties of its former administration. It is trying to find relevance in this new world of education. Those of you who read this blog often know that I think the Thurgood Marshall School of Law is TSU's hidden jewel. It is a state university, with the lowest law school tuition in the State of Texas, and it has produce many very notable attorneys. But, this cannot help in TSUs efforts, and it certainly cannot help in the Thurgood Marshall's efforts.
Now, TSU has no stop alongside campus. Rice University, UH, St. Thomas University, and UH Downtown all get excellent connections to the 2012 system.
