Too many motorcylce riders are receiving a bad rap...

ADVERTISEMENTS

How many times have you known someone that has been involved in a motor cycle accident and when you tell someone that your friend has been hurt, the person rolls their eyes and almost gives you the look of, "They were probably going 100 miles per hour, and it was their own fault." This is a common bias that a lot of people have against people that ride motorcycles and it affects law abiding citizens that are injured while riding their motorcycle and are injured through no fault of their own.

The majority of motorcycle enthusiasts follow all of the rules of the road and are not attempting to star in the sequel to "The Fast and the Furious", and yet when they are involved in accident, they are faced with the presumption that it was their fault. Too many jurors can recall the time when a motorcycle drove past them at an excessive speed, and that this is the image that most jurors have when they think of a person on a motorcycle.

I would urge everyone to leave their bias and prejudice at the courthouse steps when it comes to motorcycle riders who are involved in accidents, because they too deserve a fair trial.
