ADVERTISEMENTS
I'm still in New Orleans (um, it was 60 degrees here yesterday...I heard it was 11 in Chicago....need I say more?) and having a wonderful time. Katie and her husband Slappy have been lovely hosts, even if Slappy has nicknamed me S.K. (Serial Killer) and I awoke to find a stuffed-animal Mardi Gras throw hanging from Mardi Gras beads from the chandelier outside my bedroom. (Dear Slappy: Bettter luck next time. XoXo.) We have been parade-ing & eating (Popeye's, Popeye's, and Popeye's with a side of Popeye's) and generally enjoying ourselves. Last night we watched a New Orleans police officer direct traffic from his cop car while playing Tiger Woods Golf on his computer in the car- the one that I'm pretty sure is for running license plate numbers, but who am I to question the illegal use of city property? The always friendly & adorable Pontchartrain Pete & NOLA Notes have also been wonderful Mardi Gras companion. NOLA's daughter Sun is quite possibly one of the most adorable wee-one's I have ever met and I just want to scoop her up and bring her back to Chicago. Unfortunately I think she might protest....something about the weather? Tonight we are going parade-ing again, and this time I have my fingers crossed that we get to see Sun use her freshly painted ladder to catch some beads. NOLA, Katie & myself have devised a plan for catching the coveted glass beads and we all have some pretty strands to show for our hard work. (No flashing, just lots of smiling real pretty like.)
Tomorrow I plan on making the looong walk down to the Quarter area with Katie & Slappy, catching a coconut for BISMOW & flying home in time for dinner with him. What a lovely Mardi Gras indeed.
