Good Riddance!

ADVERTISEMENTS
Last August, about a week before the fall semester began, several of my good law school friends and I started to hear through the grapevine that Totally Useless Dean of [Useless] Law School was being forced by the University to step down. I casually mentioned that we had been hearing these rumors to another classmate who happens to intern at the same place I was interning over the summer. Two days later, while out to dinner with friends I got this totally bitchy voicemail message from that classmate telling me in so many words that I "shouldn't be spreading rumors" because apparently she had heard that Totally Useless Dean wasn't stepping down or being asked to leave. The voicemail was truly priceless, the tone of classmate's voice (seriously rivals the judgmental tone that my mother is famous for) combined with the sheer ridiculousness of the way she was scolding me was quite literally one of the funniest things I had heard in a long time. I saved that voicemail and let my good law school friends, as well as my best non-law friend, listen to it in the days that followed. It was really quite a great way to start off the last year of law school. To this day we still joke about it and every once in awhile someone will jokingly remind me that I "shouldn't spread rumors."

And then, just as the final semester of law school purgatory was starting to get boring we get this email at 4:29pm:

From: "Dean, Totally Useless"
Date: Fri, 13 Feb 2009 16:28:36
To: Law - All Students
Subject: Dean Totally Useless to step down as dean

Dear Students,

I have decided to step down as dean of the Useless Law, effective May 30, 2009.

I am grateful to all of you for the opportunity to lead this wonderful law school.  I look forward to continuing to work with each of you through May 30th as dean!

Best regards,

Totally Useless Dean
[Useless] Law

Within 30 minutes of that email going out to the students I had received 5 text messages, 3 phone calls and another 4 voice messages all bursting with excitement about how awesome it was that we had called this six months in advance of the announcement :) (and even though we are all graduating this May, we dislike this Dean so much that there is true exictement all around about him leaving).

I really love it when I'm right, cause after all, apparently starting rumors is a bad thing :-)
