Peanut Butter Recall due to Salmonella Contamination

By Oguz Ozdemir

ADVERTISEMENTS

The peanut butter recall outbreak caused by Salmonella Contamination was found based from peanut butter and peanut butter paste to be by the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA’s processing plant is located in Blakely, Georgia in which the contaminated products came from bulk containers ranging from 5 to 1700 pounds. Luckily none of these products that are sold in 35-pound batches are sold directly to the consumer but they were sold to over 100 firms to use as a major ingredient to make different cookies, cakes, doughnuts, crackers, and other various food items containing peanut butter. On January 28th there was a mandatory recall from the peanut products that were sold to firms that purchased the ingredient from the contaminated plant in Georgia. Companies that have been traced back to the Georgia plant but that have not been directly affected are voluntary been recalling their products to ensure that their consumers are completely safe. It is important for consumers to check the labels of products that they might have from the contaminated list. As of now there is no evidence that any other contamination has been found at any other plant except the one in Blakely Georgia. The nationwide peanut butter recall unfortunately turned out 8 fatalities including 550 that were sickened from eating the contaminated product. The FDA is doing everything in their power to ensure that all the right brands, products, and manufacturers are being tested so that this contamination can be contained. If you or a loved one has been affected by the peanut butter recall, contact lawyers at Napoli Bern Ripka, LLP as soon as possible.
