ADVERTISEMENTS
Last weekend there was a sailing conference in town & BISMOW and myself had the pleasure of hanging out with The Errant Yachtsman (see blog linked on the right) and I completely forgot to tell y'all about it, what with the frantic scrubbing that ensues prior to a visit from Mama Duke. (Mama Duke likes things clean & orderly). TEY's Dad was also in town & many hilarious sailing stories ensued. Probably the funniest thing to happen all weekend was when TEY & BISMOW enjoyed cocktail hour(s) and BISMOW decided to tell the sailing world just how fabulous I was. Which was cute and adorable but also, honey, shhhhh. And then there were all these sailors congratulating us on being engaged, except, well, we are not engaged. See? Hilarity. And now, after business trips & visitors BISMOW and I are looking forward to a weekend of relaxing, making his secret family chili recipe & resting before we gear up for The Trip Home in which we go and visit the Duke family out West. There will be skiing, although perhaps maybe just some cross country on this visit, and some shopping & a Valentine's Day Brunch with Mama & Papa Duke, Bubba/Brother Duke & his darling fiancee, and of course, BISMOW & myself. Mama Duke correctly determined that Valentines Day is about everyone you love and so rather than split up for steak dinners that evening, she thinks we should all get together for waffles & eggs. I couldn't agree more. That night we will probably make a pan of lasagna and watch some movies and do nothing remotely red rose & cheap champagne related. Whew.
And speaking of brunch, I just had brunch with the lovely author of Dysfunction Junction (also seen on the right) and we laughed and giggled and were relieved to walk past Cafe Ba Ba Reeba without seeing sangria puke in the snowbank outside. Mostly because (cue trumpeting angels) it is above freezing in Chicago, which is pathetic and only made more pathetic by the headline I read this morning; "It Is Above Freezing! 25 Great Reasons To Go Outside!" and all I have to say to that is pffffft. Mardi Gras anyone?
