Paul Outraises the GOP Field

By wt

ADVERTISEMENTS
Ron Paul raised more than any other GOP candidate in the 4th quarter of 2007. But no one cares.

I actually had to track down these numbers because they weren't widely reported yesterday. And Huckabee didn't even send out his numbers in a press release. The LAT had to go directly to the FEC to get his numbers.

Paul: 19.95 million
Giuliani: 14.4 million
Romney: 9.2 million
Thompson: 8.9 million
Huckabee: 6.7 million

A couple surprises. First, that Rudy was raising significant funds last quarter, even as it became obvious that he wasn't going to have much success in the early primary states.

Second, Thompson was also raising a lot of money, though don't forget this quarter spans all the way back to October, 2007, when his chances looked a little better and people were still slightly enthusiastic about his campaign.

Lastly, Romney's anemic total meant that he had to contribute 18 million dollars to himself last quarter alone. Yes, that means Romney self-donated a lot of money, but still less than Paul raised on his own from other people.

Now Romney is making another major ad buy on his way to Super Tuesday. So I'd say he's going to put in about 50 million dollars over the last year.

On a losing primary campaign.
