ADVERTISEMENTS
Texas Monthly's Paul Burka has a wonderful post on his BurkaBlog, "89 House Seats Will Be Contested in 2008."The speaker's race and the narrowing Republican majority gave both parties an incentive to field candidates in races that they might normally pass up. Almost three-fifths of the House seats will be up for grabs in 2008. I have made comments throughout and tried to give some perspective on the outcome with reports of previous races, and my evaluation of the overall candidate list appears at the end. Each section of the list is in the numerical order of members' districts. Note to readers: I will be updating these races as more information comes in during the primary campaigns.CANDIDATES RUNNING UNOPPOSED (32 R, 29 D)And I'm going to add his summary lines below:INCUMBENTS FACING PRIMARY ELECTIONS ONLY (10 D, 8 R)INCUMBENTS WITH GENERAL ELECTION RACES ONLY (28 D, 25 R)INCUMBENTS WITH PRIMARY & GENERAL ELECTION OPPONENTS (9 Rs, 2 Ds)INCUMBENTS WHO RETIRED, LEAVING OPEN SEATS (7 Rs, 2 Ds)If you're interested in the politics of the Lege, you'll want to read the entire post.continue to full post
