: Kentucky Law BlogLBA's Annual Bench and Bar Dinner at Henry Clay
By Michael Stevens
Louisville's legal community joined with members of the local and state judiciary at the Louisville Bar Association's Annual Bench and Bar Dinner program and auction at the Henry Clay on Thursday, January 22.
Guests were welcomed by the grandeur of one of Louisville?s most historic downtown buildings located at Third and Chestnut streets. As the night ensued, guests were treated to dinner and live music performed by McDaniel Bluitt and the West Louisville Boys Choir, a group which was established in 1989 as a vehicle to reach children from Louisville's inner city.
A silent and live auction capped off the evening with a number of valuable items and vacations that were up for auction, with proceeds benefiting the Louisville Bar Foundation (LBF), the charitable giving arm of the Louisville Bar Association. Some of the items up for auction included a one-week stay at the Amelia Island Plantation, an overnight stay at West Baden Resort with spa package, a round of golf for four at Valhalla Golf Club, autographed basketball signed by Rick Pitino and the entire University of Louisville basketball team and much more.
?This year?s program was a huge success not only for the LBF, but also for the Louisville community at large,? stated Scott Furkin, Executive Director of the Louisville Bar Association. ?The generosity exuberated by LBA members through their donations to this event has far exceeded our expectations and clearly shows the benevolent qualities that exists in all members of our legal community.
The LBF was established in 1981 with a mission to raise and distribute funds for delivery of legal services to the poor and indigent, for law-related public education, and for improvement of the judiciary, the legal profession and citizen access to the justice system. Since its inception, the LBF has distributed more than $1.5 million in grants to local organizations such as The Family Place, Kentucky Refuge Ministries and Legal Aid Society for various projects.
For anyone interested in purchasing music by the West Louisville Boys Choir, their current release, Sounds of Hope, is now on sale through the LBA. To purchase a copy, simply contact the LBA by e-mailing dlewis@loubar.org.
