Mayer Brown moves to shore up LA office with executive committee

Mayer Brown moved to shore up its Los Angeles office, which saw the departure of four partners this month, by appointing an executive committee to lead the office and announcing that the current managing partner there will shift to the Chicago office.

The law firm said in a statement that it's appointing a five-member committee led by partner Mickey Kantor, a former U.S. Trade Representative and U.S. Commerce Secretary, to "provide management oversight" for the office. The firm will have a new partner in charge of the office soon, said Kantor, without specifying candidates for the post or a timeline for the decision.

Mayer Brown wants to be "a major force in the legal market" in Los Angeles, Kantor said in an interview. "That's not the case right now. I'll be very candid. But we will be."
