: Legal Pad | LAWhittier Law School gets back on track
By Jonathan Hayter
After
years of attempting to get off of probation with the American Bar Association,
Whittier Law School has reason to celebrate: 84% of its students who took the
California bar exam last July passed?the best pass rate the school has seen in
more than a decade.
Since 2004, Whittier, based in Costa Mesa, Calif., had been on probation for
what the ABA considered to be lower than average bar passage rates. In June,
the ABA lifted the probation.
Whittier attributes much of its success to two new programs designed to prepare
its students for the bar exam. But many schools in California have improved
their bar passage rates. And the ABA?s House of Delegates passed new standards
regarding bar passage rates last year.
