Happy 2008

ADVERTISEMENTS
2008, wow. I will write a Year In Review post soon, since I enjoyed doing last year's so much. 2007 has an interesting beginning and end too: January 1, 2007 - Honolulu, HI; December 30, 2007 - London, England. Hee.

I feel super productive today, having listed my old computer and several law textbooks for sale I found just now that I've already sold some of them! (Ahh, blessed income, however small!) I waver each year as to whether I want to do resolutions or not, but I think this is a good year for it as long as the resolutions are reasonable and do-able. For the record, previous failed resolutions included prohibitions against nail biting and red meat and ridiculous quotas including calorie limits and large numbers of books to be read. Ones that were acheivable were far broader. Last year, my main personal goal was to be more confident and forthright in dating and romance. It worked out pretty well... (*silly grin*) So:

I resolve to be proactive in my job search, not being afraid to network, network, NETWORK. I will spend about four hours per day in this pursuit, applying to jobs, asking for informational interviews, and doing the usual career mundungus.

Additionally, I will strive to be healthier, cook more of my own food, eat better foods and less of it, and make exercise a routine. While shedding pounds is good, it is to be understood that this is for my own health and well-being, not for purely cosmetic reasons. Progress, not pounds.

In 2008, I will to attempt to find patience, be less frustrated and cranky, and focus on the brighter things in life when things seem to be going poorly.

I will spend more of my free time in active pursuits such as writing, reading, and walking rather than passive pursuits such as television and mindless Internet browsing.

Finally, I resolve not to be a Bridezilla this summer and make my wedding a miserable affair even when others stress me out about details, etc. It's one day (albeit a great one) which will pale in comparison to the big picture of having found my ideal man with whom I want to spend the rest of my life.

I believe they are feasible, at least for the most part. The whole point of resolutions, I think, is to reflect on oneself as a person and find places where improvement is necessary, so doing the pinpointing is a big step in itself. So, even a little progress toward these areas can be considered a personal success.
