: The MenagerieWhat, is my credit score showing?
Because I'm not rich enough or cool enough for the Pearl District -- at least not as far as Shoefly is concerned. The store is just a couple of blocks down from my office, and I've gotten a few pairs of shoes there in the past. Granted, only their less expensive brands, and I'm pretty good about watching sales, but I've paid full price once or twice. (It's true: I can only afford to work here, not live here.)
So imagine my delight when I walk past and see a 50% off sale! I quickly found these, and waited for a salesperson to free up so I could try one on in a 7. (Yeah, my feet grew after having Peach - it sucks.)
And I waited.
And I waited.
And yet....nothing. I picked up the shoe and walked around the store. I tried to make eye contact with the most officious looking employee present. (She refused to make eye contact.) I rescued a fellow shopper when a boot display started to collapse like dominoes. And waited.
In the meanwhile, another sales person was explaining to someone that there was a problem with her credit card, and the customer - a frosted blonde, imperious and trying to look much younger than 50-something - snidely pointed out that her card did not have a limit on it, and to try again. (This is why I'm no good at retail - I would have told her to blow it out her bleach bottle and get out of my face.) The other employee? Was continuing to whirl and teeter around the store and help everyone else, and then decided to stand at the counter.
So I walked up to the counter, plunked down the pump in front of her majesty of the declined card, and left. I guess if I'm going to have to shop shoes, I'd better do it the old fashioned way: Zappos.
