: Des Moines Personal Injury LawyerDiet Safety: Where do we even begin?
By Megan Roth
January is (drum roll, please – dud- -du-du-du-du-dudu-duh…): Diet Safety Month on InjuryBoard. And we’re alright with that.
In fact, I’m actually excited about it! I’m not one of those organic-only-prepare-my-own-food-all-the-time type individuals; however, I am relatively health conscious. I believer we are what we eat.
Wait, let me say that again: I believe we are what we eat. Thus, we need to eat. In my most humble perspective, meal replacements are not a good idea. We eat for energy; not just because we want it, but also because we need it. There’s a reason the food pyramid was established and, while it certainly doesn’t meet the specific needs of each and every individual, at least it comes close. I don’t buy into diets that suggest it’s feasible to lose 20 pounds of fat in 30 days (with or without exercise).
I don’t buy into body cleanses that flush the fat from your system, regardless of whether they’re natural or not. Why? Because those cleanses are flushing a lot more than just fat; they’re also flushing all of the vitamins and nutrients our bodies need to continue functioning properly.
I’m not a fan of the Atkins diet, because (realistically) you’re going to pack the pounds back on as soon as you start eating carbs again.
Considering my viewpoints on the previous four weight loss techniques, you’ve probably already figured out I don’t support diet pills either.
In fact, I do less than “not support” them – I vehemently oppose them. There are so many diet pills on the market, it can be overwhelming to research them all. Is one better than another? How about worse? Which actually work and which are really just money traps for the suckers who don’t want to go through the hassle of exercising and watching what they eat?
Diet pills, liquids, supplements, etc can be downright dangerous, people. It’s important to know what you’re getting into before consuming any of them. Some may seem to work, but they’re taking much more than just fat from your body. Even those that appear to make you look slimmer and feel great may be doing more harm than good.
Skeptical? You’re thinking “she’s biased.” Well, you’re right: I am biased. I’ve done much research on this issue and I look forward to sharing cold, hard facts with you which will help you understand the grounds on which my bias is based.
What’s that old mantra? “Eat well, Live well.”? Or how about “eat smart and stay active.”? Hmm…both seem fitting to me. Either way, they’re about balance. For some reason, I don’t see diet pills and the threats they pose fitting into that balance…
