Don't Let The Door Hit Your Ass On The Way Out

By "Daisy Duke"

ADVERTISEMENTS
For myself, my family & friends, and my internet friends, 2008 has been a doozy. A real humdinger. A real kick in the pants. Before I write about all the crap that I am so deliriously happy to bid au revoir to, I will focus on the good. Because, no matter what, there is always some good.

2008, The Good

The coalition of myself, the Alleged Lady, PAG, The Artful Blogger & various other wonderful friends graduated from law school and then kicked the bar exam square in the ass. Take that you rite of passage you.

BISMOW. I won't keep this category long, but suffice to say, meeting & having a great year with your soul mate should always be on the "good" list. Even when he is a typical stinky, sports watching, scotch drinking man that annoys me. I still love him.

La-a (know to others as Overflowing Brain) got freaking married. And was admitted to the number one graduate program in the nation for what she is studying. La-a, Slappy and NOLAnotes & her family survived Gustav relatively unscathed. Lanny, from My Lagniappe welcomed another darling baby into her house.

PAG went to graduate school after law school, the Alleged Lady helped turn a red state blue (I like to think she did it single-handedly) and The Artful Blogger scored a dream job with dream benefits & salary. Grace from Law with Grace gave the most phenomenal Christmas Gift ever, which if you knew her, you would know was a big accomplishment & milestone. BISMOW found a new job in March, which has turned out to be all he hoped & more.  The Namby Pamby....well he bought some fabulous new suits & had his blog nominated as an ABA top 100 blog in the country. Our darling friend Minnie moved to Chicago and has been a wonderful addition to our lovely little group.

All of those things are truly good things. Things for which I am thankful.

But, 2008 had a huge amount of suck-age. So lets discuss why I am so ready to be done with it.

2008, The Bad

I spent a summer studying for the bar exam. BPLF didn't hire me, and um, well my so called "dream" job turned out to be a nightmare, with a psychotic boss who " let me go" after two months. So yeah, on that alone I'm ready to kick 2008 to the curb. But it doesn't end there. My family went to hell and back, with my one and only sibling going into a rehabilitation program and sorting out the demons. BISMOW's grandmother is on hospice & his grandfather is gearing up to fight his own health battle. Jack the Poodle died, leaving a big hole in my heart. I also, very sadly, lost some friends this year with disagreements so large they couldn't be tucked away or glossed over. These things...well...they stink.

The Alleged Lady dealt with death in her family, a horrible relationship meltdown & a 3 month stint in another state. PAG had her own relationship meltdown of epic proportions. La-a had all of her stuff stolen on her honeymoon and again her wallet during the holiday season. She also had a freaking 3 month headache, which, I'm sorry, no one should have to endure, especially on top of her broken foot & scar revision surgery gone wrong. The Namby Pamby has a job that while good at times, throws him a curve ball rather often. The Artful Blogger had a condo-closing that wasn't quite so simple (in fact, I think we could call it rather stressful), and Minnie moved to Chicago & is now dealing with marital problems. Grace has the thing we don't talk about but sucks boiling on a back burner.

Needless to say, I'm done. I'm over it. I'm moving on. I'm ready to usher in a new year, with a fresh slate.

I will say that the one thing, throughout this roller coaster, has been constant, and that has been the support of my friends. Everyone who was listed above has supported me & my friends during our times of trouble and strife. Hell, my blog readers with their comments and emails have been a bright point in it all. Something about human connection makes even the pits of hell seem a little cooler & more tropical. Thank you to all of my friends, both here & online for sticking through one doozy of a year. Tonight I'm raising my glass to something fresh & hopefully something a little more uplifting.

A long December, and there's reason to believe
That maybe this year will be better than the last
