Baby Becca: Month 11

By Andrea

ADVERTISEMENTS

Dear Becca,

You're going to be ONE next month. WHAT HAPPENED?

New hat 2  I'm only planning to do one more of these letters regularly before I lapse into updates whenever I have time. I can't believe we're getting to the end, and closer to a day when you won't be baby Becca anymore. I mean, you STILL only have two teeth!

This month you've learned to do all kinds of silly things like point accusingly and grab the remote and point it at the TV or at one of us. In the morning when I come and get you, you stand up in your crib and hold your monkey best friend up to me so I can pick both of you up. Last week, I politely declined your attempt to feed me yet another Cheerio, and you pointed at me, frowned, and yelled, "AH BA BA DA AH!" First time you told Mommy off!

I also decided to channel your desire to pull all the books off the shelf into something productive, and made you your own shelf of board books in the living room. This has been a smashing success, and you'll sit for a long time in a pile of ten books, flipping over the pages right to left, upside down, or whichever way seems best. I got you a childhood favorite of mine, "Hand Hand Fingers Thumb," and you enthusiastically bang on the book with me for "Dum ditty dum ditty dum dum dum." When we say "THE END," you sometimes try "DEE AH," and when dinner is "ALL DONE," you often say "AA DUH!" You say "mum mum" and "dadeee" all the time, but not actually AT us, so I haven't credited you with it yet.

Spinning with mom The big news is your progress toward walking, although we seem a lot more excited about it than you. If Daddy or I stand you up a foot away from us, you can launch yourself forward three or four steps before collapsing into our arms. We whoop and hug you, and you'll do it two or three more times, but then you get bored and sit down, and you rarely try it on your own. Oh well. One thing you do like to do on your own is crawl into my lap, stand up, and throw your arms around my neck. I never get tired of that. Or you! It's been cold and I've been sick, but I think the evidence is clear that the three of us find a way to have fun no matter what. Ready for your first Hanukkah, Christmas, and birthday? Happy everything, baby.

Love,
Mommy
