: Structured Settlements 4Real"Gallows Humor" from Baltimore
By John Darer
With respect to the Stone Street blog response to my post yesterday Stone Street Capital Where Blue Is Really "Brown" on Structured Settlements (among other things about Stone Street Capital's absurd blooper about the 40% excise tax levied under IRC 5891 as "a fine"), I would like to thank Stone Street Capital's "Patricia" for meticulously tying her own hangwoman's noose, trotting up the steps, affixing it to the Baltimore gallows and looping it around her neck, courteously jumping up and down to force open the trap door, hurtling through and starting to flail as the life gets choked out of her argument.
Ms. Patricia's existential digital diarrhea in response to my merely pointing out what is in the express language of the tax code, is unnecessary. The tax code says it's a tax.
The Technical Explanation of The Victims of Terrorism Tax Relief Act of 2001 as passed by the House and Senate on December 20,2001 prepared by the Joint Committee on Taxation (at p24) says it's an EXCISE TAX, so it is. And she's now admitted it! End of story "cash now" pusher!
One wonders what the benefit to Stone Street Capital is to defend its blooper. It seems that the ball of financial illiteracy stays up in the air with their name associated with its support. Recent historical structured settlement market place confusion has arisen in part because many of the players in the factoring industry have misrepresented themselves through the misuse of key terms.
