: Dispatches from the Culture WarsCourt Denies Cert on Citizenship Challenge
By Ed Brayton
The Supreme Court has denied cert in Donofrio v Wells, one of the cases challenging Obama's status as a natural-born citizen. They considered and discussed whether to take the case on Friday and announced on Monday morning that they would not hear the case. It takes the votes of 4 justices to put a case on the docket. The court denied the cert petition with no comment, so we don't know who voted which way or why.
This was quite predictable, of course. Also predictable is that this will not do anything at all to stop the loonies from claiming that he's not eligible to be president. In fact, it will just add the Supreme Court to the conspiracy list that already includes Obama's mother, who cleverly placed a fake birth announcement in a Hawaii newspaper knowing that proof of his fake birth in America would be required when he one day ran for president, the entire state government of Hawaii (despite being led by a governor who endorsed McCain) and elections officials in every state.
