Letter of Resignation

ADVERTISEMENTS
Not the one I actually gave my boss. But the one I wish I could have given him...

My last day there was Friday. I start New Job on Wednesday. I am hopeful that it will work out - that I can quit being so freakishly obsessed with figuring out what to do with my life and just LIVE my life.

Dear BossMan,

This is to inform you that I'll be resigning as of December 5th from my position with BossMan's Last Name Law Office. I have accepted a position with another company and will be starting there soon.

The reasons I am quitting are many and varied, and include the following:

1. Your wife, our supposed office manager, is a miserable bitch who delights in making her employees miserable also. She does not care about the well-being or happiness of your employees ? her only concern is that we continue to bring in money.

2. For four months, I have been working as a paralegal/receptionist despite being a licensed attorney. This seems to be because of staffing problems and some strange system of dues-paying that would only make sense to your wife. I have sat at the front desk while one of my classmates (who failed the bar and is thus NOT a licensed attorney) sits in the office that is supposed to be mine. This is baffling, hurtful, and completely wrong. It is also not in any way her fault ? the blame falls squarely on your shoulders, as you are the one who determines where people sit at work.

3. You seem not to have noticed that I am not receiving any attorney training. I know you are busy with your home renovations, but if you gave the office any thought at all, you might realize that the new attorney probably should be trained as an attorney and not answering the phone.

This whole experience has been deeply confusing and difficult for me, and I both blame myself and you. I blame myself for not thinking that things would be exactly the same as they were last summer, when I saw you take complete advantage of your employees dedication and hard work for your own personal gain without showing one iota of gratitude. I blame myself for being so naïve to think that now that I had graduated (and again, once I passed the bar) that you would show me a little bit of respect as a professional colleague.

I blame you for not noticing what is going on in your own office, for blatantly playing favorites among employees, and for valuing the generation of income above all else. I blame you for not standing up to your wife, who is manipulative and pushy and has no idea how to manage actual human beings.

I am excited beyond belief to get out of the toxic environment you maintain in your business.

Thank you,

Jeanne
