Academy of Special Needs Planners Article on Preparing for Passage of Child Into Adulthood Appears in Exceptional Parent Magazine

By dvanar

ADVERTISEMENTS

Academy of Special Needs Planners co-founder Harry S. Margolis recently co-authored an article titled “What to Do When Your Child Turns 18″ that is featured in the November issue of Exceptional Parent Magazine.

The article highlights five key transition points that families face as their children with special needs reach adulthood. These transitions points are: financial independence and support, legal and health care decision making, education and vocational training, health insurance coverage and housing. Margolis and co-author Eric Prichard, a Massachusetts lawyer, describe common sense planning approaches for families who face these often difficult transitions with little or no support. The article also discusses various government benefits and the role effective planning can play in assisting a child with special needs throughout her lifetime.

“What to Do When Your Child Turns 18″ is available online at the Exceptional Parent website, which requires a reader to open a free account in order to access a wide variety of helpful content.

Donald D. Vanarelli, Esq., owner of this weblog, is a Founding Member of the Academy of Special Need Planners.
