Invention Law Group, PLLC is looking for a Chief IP Counsel for our Licensing team in Bellevue, Washington. Intellectual Ventures (?IV?) is a privately-held, invention investment company based in Bellevue, Washington. Our business model centers on creating, acquiring and licensing invention in a variety of technology areas.  We plan to commercialize inventions through licensing, spin-offs, joint ventures and partnerships.

Responsibilities:
The Chief IP Counsel will serve as a key member of IV?s senior management team and
report directly to the General Counsel. Working closely with business managers and senior executives, the Chief IP Counsel will lead a team of senior patent licensing attorneys and be involved in all aspects of developing and implementing business and legal strategy, team leadership and people development, negotiating licenses and settlements, selection and management of outside counsel, and litigation.

Supplanted by a team of licensing attorneys, the Chief IP Counsel will:

? Provide legal, business and strategic advice related to all aspects of IV?s intellectual property portfolio.
? Develop and implement strategies to enhance IV?s technological and competitive position.
? Guide overall portfolio development for future licensing and enforcement.
? Partner with licensing executives to develop licensing strategy within and across vertical business units.
? Provide guidance in negotiation of various outbound patent license agreements.
? Provide guidance to patent prosecution team.
? Provide direction to and effectively manage relationships with multiple outside counsel in all of the above.

Requirements:
An ideal candidate will be an experienced leader, with a combination of in-house and private practice experience, strong patent licensing experience, and a broad technology background, with the following attributes:

? Minimum 10 years patent law experience with 3+ years recent experience in IP licensing (preferably patent licensing).
? Technical background and understanding sufficient to quickly learn and assimilate IV?s technologies as well as new technologies.
? A proven track record leading senior attorneys to achieve their goals.
? Expert knowledge of principles, practices, case law and state of the art patent licensing.
? Skillful with business management, team leadership, deal making, strategic sales/licensing approaches, and a broad-based understanding of IP protection strategies and patent licensing business.
? Broad technical knowledge.
? A multi-dimensional thinker who operates not only on the basis of important past experiences, but incorporates new approaches and developments that occur in market.
? Able to establish credibility quickly and act with the authority gained through experience. Have sufficient presence and expertise to impact the business in a powerful way; have a ?can do? attitude, and ability to rally a team around a common vision.
? Have the capacity to isolate and prioritize issues for his/her team and to help focus on implementing both top-level, strategic solutions as well as the day-to-day tactics necessary for winning in the marketplace.
? Highly intelligent, decisive, creative and displays courage of his/her convictions.
? A champion of ideas who accepts disagreement with maturity and with the good of the business at heart.
? Ability to work well with others and to quickly assimilate and understand information (including highly technical information)
? Excellent negotiation and contract drafting skills
? J.D., Law degree
