: Marler BlogSalinas Valley once again the suspect in another E. coli outbreak - Farm not yet named
By Bill Marler, Esq.
Dawn Withers, a.k.a. “the lettuce lady,” reports tonight what has long been suspected and rumored; the Salinas Valley is again the likely source of yet another E. coli O157:H7 outbreak. The “Lettuce Lady” quotes Ken August from the California Department of Public Health that it is investigating whether a Salinas Valley farm is the source of an E. coli outbreak in Canada. Since October, over 100 cases of E. coli O157:H7 infection have been confirmed in Ontario. Canadian health officials don't know the source or cause of the contamination, according to the Ontario Ministry of Health. However, Ken August, a spokesman for the state's Health Department, confirmed that state investigators are examining a Monterey County farm after receiving information from Canadian health officials. ??August said that officials are considering California lettuce as a possible source in the outbreak and that investigators have been at the farm for more than a week.
Also, do not forget that the Aunt Mid’s cases as well as the Jimmy John’s outbreak were also linked to the consumption of lettuce. Why not name the farms?
