: A Day in the LifeNew International Human Rights Program at U of C!
Prospective students frequently ask about our international and comparative law curricular offerings. Accordingly, we thought that many of you would be interested in learning about an exciting new international human rights internship program available to University of Chicago Law School students. The Chicago JD-International Human Rights Summer Program is a joint initiative of the Law School and the University of Chicago Human Rights Program. The Program will begin in Summer 2009 and will offer placements to U of C law students with international human rights organizations all over the world. Placement options include the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, The Lawyer?s Collective in New Delhi, India, the Australian Human Rights Centre, the Gilbert and Tobin Public Law Centre in Sydney, Australia, the Southern Africa Litigation Centre, and the International Centre for the Protection of Civil Rights in London. Students will be able to intern at these organizations for all or part of their summer.
In addition, participating students will be linked with faculty mentors and there is a strong possibility that students may have the option to spend part of their summer doing related comparative and international law research for those faculty members. Participating faculty members include Professors Thomas Ginsburg, Martha Nussbaum, and Rosalind Dixon.
Internships in this Program will be unpaid. However, students participating in the Program will be eligible to apply for public interest funding either through our Heerey Fellowship program or the Chicago Law Foundation. Sarah Arimoto-Mercer, our Director of Financial Aid, will follow up with another post about the public interest funding options available to Law School students. Please make sure to check back soon!
