Monday Night Football Readers Poll

By "Daisy Duke"

ADVERTISEMENTS
Well, technically this poll has nothing to do with football, but I'm writing it while watching the Saints (Geaux Saints!) on my new 42 inch televison, therefore it works. Or at least takes the spotlight off of the fact that I'm a few posts and/or days behind my last post. So. Here we are. Monday.

And I'm curious about your favorite Thanksgiving dish. Is it the turkey? Your Mama's oyster cornbread stuffing? Jello salad? Or the sedated state in which you watch the football game that afternoon?

Myself, I love it all. Green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and lots of gravy on my potatoes. I also don't eat a traditional Turkey Day meal until Friday because I go to my Grandparents in Savannah, and on the actual Turkey Thursday we go to their club, where I typically gorge myself on fried oysters and shrimp cocktail. On Friday we cook our turkey and I enjoy every bite of it, save the stuffing. I hate stuffing. It falls into "soggy bread" category (along with bread pudding, French toast and cereal) and therefore I find its texture so disgusting I can't even try to enjoy the flavor. Not to mention stuffing just tastes like soggy bread. Yuck-o.

I digress. I want to know what your favorite Thanksgiving dish is. And I'd like to announce that between now and the next week I'm soliciting your favorite holiday (any holiday....I'd love some Hanukkah potato pancakerecipes) recipe. Email it, post it in the comment section, send it to me snail mail. I'm going to test-kitchen as many as I have time for and I'm going to write up a big holiday recipe post in time for all of the up-coming seasons. That way if you are hosting your in-laws for the very first time, inviting your friends over for a Holiday Sweater Party, or just ready to spice it up this year, you will have something to choose from. Or think about. Or contemplate cooking. I know I'm going to be sharing the time honored Duke family sausage stuffing recipe (just because I find it vile doesn't mean the rest of my family isn't swooning over it), a discussion of turkey methods (brining, deep frying, foil covering, bag baking), BISMOW's home-made shrimp cocktail, the human equivalent of catnip, and most likely my favorite mashed potatoes. So dig through your recipe books and start sharing. After you tell me your favorites. Partly because I'm demanding, and partly because I find you a fascinating and well-rounded group and I'm looking for a few new things to add to the roundup at the holiday part PAG and I are throwing in December.

In closing, Geaux Saints!
