Baby Becca: Month 10

By Andrea

ADVERTISEMENTS

Dear Becca,

OK, I have to post something for this month tonight or else I won't do it until you're two.

I'm stating the obvious, but you're not a little baby anymore. You are a BIG baby - tall, sure, but also learning new things every day, things that move you close and closer to the toddler you're soon to become. The evidence is pretty overwhelming.

Sippy cup This month, you learned to clap without making much noise and to roll your little toy truck around while making a sound that is more "Nnnnn" than "Vrooom." You don't understand a kiss on the cheek all the way, but you can open your mouth and lean into me while saying "UMM!" You can now put your stacking rings back on their pole, mostly, do a awkward bouncing baby dance when you hear music, and have just started standing for a few seconds before losing your cool and sitting back down. You're in a wonderful in-between stage where I'm afraid to turn around lest I miss you learning something new.

Beans 1 You've also started showing a little more affection for Daddy and me than you did before. You hug us sometimes when you're tired, and grin when I pick you up from daycare about three out of five times. But my favorite is when you're eating Cheerios and I lean in close to your face. You'll pick up a Cheerio in your fat little fist, and offer it up to me. I always take it and crunch it up noisily.

Don't think you're too perfect, though: You have a couple signs of the troublemaker toddler looming, including a few more frustrated crying spells than you usually have and a devilish habit of untaping your diaper with your free hand while drinking a bottle. I'm on to you!

Becca, Mommy and Daddy might be on to your tricks, but we'll also be right here for when you stand and fall, when you need to throw a tantrum, or just to share a snack and do a happy dance. I hope that's the case for years to come.

Love,
Mommy
